Learning Disabilities

Assessment for learning disabilities through a thorough and individualized process. The evaluation typically begins with a referral when teachers, parents, or other school staff notice persistent learning difficulties. Information is gathered about the student's developmental history, academic performance, and any relevant medical or psychological factors. This includes a thorough examination of developmental milestones, academic performance, and any pertinent medical or psychological factors. Specifically, attention is given to instances of poor academic performance and ongoing struggles in various educational domains. Past assessments, if available, are considered to provide a comprehensive understanding of the individual's learning profile. Additionally, any prior interventions, whether educational or therapeutic, are thoroughly reviewed to gauge their effectiveness and inform the current assessment process.

Cognitive assessments are a key component in evaluating the student's intellectual functioning and cognitive processes, such as memory, attention, processing speed, and problem-solving skills. Academic achievement testing is conducted to assess performance in specific areas like reading, writing, and mathematics.

Emotional and social assessments may also be administered to determine the impact of learning disabilities on the individual's self-esteem and overall well-being or whether emotional or social assessments are impacting academic performance.
